Q1: What size of outdoor LED screen are available?

Same as IAM indoor LED display, our outdoor series also with the same size of 320 mm*160 mm, from P2 mm to P10. But only suitable for outdoor rear maintenance. Rear maintenance outdoor LED display solution with P2mm, P2.5mm, P3.076mm, P4mm, P5mm, P6mm, P8mm and P10mm with 320*160mm size. On the other hand, front maintenance outdoor LED screen solution with P5 mm, P6.67mm, P8 mm, and P10mm with 320*320mm size.

Different module sizes, but the cabinet size is mostly the same. Normally, the preferable size is 960*960 mm, which is suitable for both rear maintenance and front maintenance. The other reason is 960mm near 1000mm, which is also 1 meter, much easier to count.

There is one premium outdoor solution in IAM outdoor products, which cabinet is 1000*1000 mm, pixel pitch range from P3.9mm, P4.8mm, P6.25mm, P7.8mm, and P10.4mm. Both front and rear maintenance is available. Different size options provide a more suitable size for your outdoor projects. But regarding outdoor projects, size is only one of the reference factors. There are many other reference items. You are welcome to discuss specific projects together.

Different from indoor products, front access/ maintenance is always a more difficult issue. Due to complex weather conditions, unstable winds, heavy rain, and strong sunshine, magnet adsorption is incompetent for outdoor solutions.

There are two ways to access the outdoor front maintenance. One used a screw to fix the module on the cabinet from the front side. The other is to use mechanical struts to open the entire box from the front side. And the first one is very popular because of its convenience and cheap cost.

However, with this comes a new problem. There is not much room for the screws on the module surface. The distances of P10 mm, P8 mm, and P6 mm are still good enough for one screw. But for some fine pitches, such as P3 mm, P2.5mm, and P2 mm, there is not enough space left for screws, that’s the reason why our outdoor front access solution starts from P4 mm to P10mm.

One obvious distinction between indoor LED displays and outdoor direct-view LED displays: Outdoor displays are engineered to withstand anything nature throws at them. But they also have some less evident distinctions.

Indoor and outdoor LED displays use different core LED technology and feature varying brightness levels, pixel density, and overall cost per square foot. But indoor and outdoor displays alike can deliver powerful, full-motion messaging in unique shapes and ways on a huge scale. The right LED for your needs depends on the installation environment, the viewing distance, and the end use of your LED.

To work reliably for many years, outdoor electronics need to be engineered to handle all sorts of extreme weather conditions, as well as man-made threats from pollution to vandalism.

These outdoor electronics are housed in “cabinets” — units about the size of a suitcase — that are stacked, tiled, and connected to create large displays. Those cabinets typically have Ingress Protection (IP) ratings of IP55 or higher to prevent damage from rain, snow, ice, and wind-blown dust and pollutants. Engineering also factors in protecting against risks like lightning strikes — particularly with outdoor digital marketing displays mounted on pedestals high above roadways.

First of all, you must know very clear about your requirements of your LED screen video wall. IP stands for Ingress Protection. IP rating is a recognized standard set by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). This standard exists to specify the exact protection of electrical equipment against penetration by solid foreign matter, including dust and water. The exact degree of protection is achieved by various tests.

There are two digits stands for the IP rating, for instance, IP31. the first digits stands for protection against ingress of solid foreign objects:

X means not tested; 0 means not protected; 1means solid foreign objects ≥ 50 mm; 2 means solid foreign objects ≥ 12.5 mm; 3 means solid foreign objects ≥ 2.5 mm; 4 means solid foreign objects ≥ 1.0 mm; 5 and 5K meas dust protected;6 and 6K means dust tight.

The second digits stands for protection against the ingress of water:

X means not tested; 0 means not protected; 1 means vertical dripping; 2 means dripping (inclined 15°); 3 means spraying; 4 means splashing; 4K means same with increased pressure; 5 means jetting; 6 means powerful jetting; 6K means same at increased pressure; 7 means temporary immersion; 8 means continuous immersion;9K means high pressure/steam jet cleaning.

Being exposed to high-risk damages, an outdoor LED screen should have an ideal IP rating. It will be IP65 or at least IP54. Having an outdoor LED screen rated with the ideal IP rating is better. Do you know why IP65 is the ideal IP rating for an outdoor LED screen?

As mentioned before, the first digit indicates the protection against solids, and the second digit refers to the protection against liquid. An IP65-rated outdoor LED screen achieves maximum protection level against solid and physical contact, such as dust and human touch. It is both dust-tight and durable. The digit 5 in the IP65 proves that the outdoor LED screen is protected from low-pressure water jets from all angles. It is protected against heavy rain.

One of the most important technical parameters of the LED outdoor display screen is simply its brightness. Not only does it grab your attention, but it also ensures you can see what’s on the screen. Anyone who’s tried to use your phone under the sun understands that viewing the screen in daylight is what counts, no matter how stable the display is.

The Luminous Brightness of the LED Screen Display is measured in cd/sqm or nit(s), which refers to the luminous intensity per square meter when the LED display is working normally. It’s easy to understand that the higher the value, the brighter the display. For example, indoor LED screen brightness is around 1000 nits, and outdoor LED screen is more than 4000 nits.

The brightness of the outdoor LED displays is usually closely related to the installation position, orientation, and surrounding environment of the display’s application. If the outdoor LED display is installed facing southwards, the brightness of the display is relatively high around 7000 nits. When the outdoor LED display is facing North, sunshine would be more direct, meaning the brightness can be lower at around 5500 nits If the outdoor display screen is in a city sheltered by tall buildings or trees, the brightness should be around 4000 nits.

There are many factor play important role to decide brightness of the outdoor LED screen. LED quality, voltage of LED screen, and pixel pitch. Normally, IAM outdoor LED brightness is over 5000nits, and it can be reach 6000 nits if you choose big pixel pitch. And with IAM premium outdoor solution, the brightness can be over 7000nits.
